Ireland V Great Britain Setanta Sports Trophy
UCD, Dublin
Sunday 15th June

Ireland took on Great Britain this afternoon in the third / fourth play off match at the 2008 Setanta Sports Trophy, in UCD Dublin. The match started well with both sides keen to penetrate the circle and Walker, who was making his first appearance of the tournament today, found himself making his first save in the 18th minute when GB's only penalty corner of the half resulted in a drag flick which Walker did well to save.  Ireland too were awarded a lone penalty corner in the first half in the 25th but GB's defence held strong and the sides were still nil all at half time.

Great Britain took the edge early on in the second half when an aerial set GB up for a run down the right hand side to feed the ball across the goal for a Matt Daly goal in the 42nd minute of play. Walker again proved his form when GB took another drag flick in the 11th minute which was well read by Ireland's keeper to keep them in the game. Mikie Watt for Ireland again displayed some great skill today and did well to earn his side their second penalty corner of the match in the 48th minute of play but the clinical finish eluded Ireland and they remained scoreless.

GB were gifted their second goal when a poor defensive error saw Ireland turn over the ball for Stephen Dick to pick up and hammer home to double his side's lead to two nil. Ireland picked themselves up and started to create a few more chances and Butler in the 59th minute of play showed great composure when he found himself facing McGregor in goals for GB as he took the ball around the keeper to slot it home for Ireland's only goal of the game. Despite driving forward the equaliser eluded Ireland and the game closed out two one to Great Britain.
