Umbro Dublin Cup Finals Day
05 August 2007
The Umbro Dublin Cup concluded despite the inclement weather in the AUL today. The Finals went ahead on schedule thanks to the great work of the ground staff.
The U/11 Shield Final battle of the Saints was a cracker with Josephs edging out Malachys in a five goal thriller. The Cup Final was more convincing as St.Kevins overpowered Malahide Utd by 4goals to nil.
Clontarf FC won the U/12 Shield defeating Northern visitors Glentoran FC by 2 goals to nil while in the Cup Final Shelbourne had a comfortable win over Abbeyleix.
The U/13 Shield saw St.Kevins prove too strong for Ardmore Rovers. The Cup Final was an eagerly awaited game between Caledonian Thistle and Shelbourne and after a great game of football the visitors were successful scoring the only goal to run out winners by the narrowest of margins. Both sides are to be congratulated on the very high standard of football produced in a very entertaining game.
Shelbourne had better luck in the U/14 Cup against English visitors
Lindsey
School winning by 2 goals to nil while Malahide Utd beat Ballymun 4 - 2 in the Shield Final.
The U/15 FAI Squad played Caledonian Thistle in a very good game but the Scots proved too srtong running out 2 - 0 winners in the Cup Final. The Shield Final was a close game with
Donegal
Academy defeating an unlucky Ardmore Rovers by the odd goal in three.
Eircom League opponents St.Patrick's Ath and Shelbourne contested the U/16 Shield Final with Shels coming out on top winning 3-1. The Cup Final saw an unlucky Sheriff FC lose out to Lourdes Celtic by 2-0.
Topflight Soccer & the DDSL League would like to thank all the players, managers and supporters for turning up today (and the previous days) despite the terrible weather on the final day. It is to all teams credit that no sending offs were recorded in the tournament and hopefully this will carry on into the League which starts in two weeks time.
A special word of praise for the referees, who braved the elements each day to ensure that all games were played in a sporting manner. A special mention for Marian and all the staff of the canteen who looked after everybody so well.
We are grateful to all the sponsors for their support and especially to the staff of the AUL complex and all the members of the DDSL.
We look forward to next year and building on the success of this year.
